Fan in the construction and parking industry

Controlling smoke in buildings is crucial for the following reasons:

  • Safety Preservation: According to research, the highest fatalities and casualties during fires occur due to smoke inhalation and combustion products. Having an effective smoke control system can protect the safety of individuals in the building during a fire.
  • Reduction of Losses: Approximately 57% of fire-related deaths occur outside the location of the incident. With an effective smoke control system, the spread of smoke to other parts of the building can be prevented, reducing casualties.

Therefore, during a fire incident, having an effective smoke control system in the building creates a safe and tolerable environment for affected individuals, allowing for safe and rapid evacuation of the building.

The parking ventilation system is highly important for removing toxic gases and smoke emitted from vehicle exhausts. Some of these pollutants include carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and heavy metal compounds, which are extremely harmful to human health. Therefore, the primary mission of the parking ventilation system is to evacuate or reduce the concentration of these pollutants.

The presence of smoke control systems is essential in which buildings?

  • In any parking lot that lacks natural ventilation conditions through proper openings and is considered an enclosed parking lot according to regulations, the presence of smoke management systems in fire conditions is essential.
  • Spaces with a floor level more than 9 meters below the occupant discharge level must, regardless of their use, have smoke evacuation systems in fire conditions.
  • Some specific uses such as hospitals and medical or care centers, where there is not enough time to evacuate all occupants, must be equipped with smoke control systems according to Iranian national regulations.
  • Atriums or void spaces in public buildings such as shopping centers, office buildings, or educational facilities are among spaces that, due to the forces governing smoke movement, must have independent smoke evacuation systems.
